Why WordPress?

Did you know that WordPress powers more than 32% of websites? It’s by far the most popular content management system, with a 59.6% market share. To put it in comparison, like WordPress the second and third most popular CMS platforms are open source, but have just 5.6% (Joomla) and 3.6% (Drupal) of the market. SquareSpace and Wix are the most popular paid platforms that aren’t exclusively e-commerce oriented. Despite their massive marketing efforts (ex. 3-minute commercial for the Big Game and a $100 million marketing budget) they own just 2.6% and 1.8% of the market respectively. So how has WordPress gotten so far ahead of the competition?

Open source

Open source means it’s free to use and easy to adapt. With over 600,000 active members in WordPress meetups around the world, WordPress has a strong community of developers, designers, and users that contribute to help make it better. However, don’t confuse WordPress.org with WordPress.com – which is also WordPress, but is offered as a paid service with limited customizability.

Highly customizable

With WordPress, you’re only restricted by knowledge. If a plugin doesn’t exist for a problem you’re trying to solve, knowledge of PHP and SQL is all you need to create the solution. As large as the WordPress is, you’re bound to find someone with the required skillset.

A massive plugin ecosystem

With over 55,000 available plugins, there’s a plugin for just about any need you might have. There are plugins to help optimize your site, to enhance design, to make adding and editing content easier, and plugins that integrate your site into third-party services.

Reduced cost of creating a custom website

Traditional means of web development can be time consuming, especially with content heavy websites. WordPress speeds up the development process immensely. Web developers are able to build custom websites in the matter of days, instead of weeks, and with the use of a WordPress theme or template your website can literally be up and running in hours.

Easy to edit on your own

WordPress started as a blogging platform, so it’s always been content creator friendly. Its native content editor is intuitive and easy to use, and third-party page builders make page layouts a snap.

Built to scale

We’ve all heard the axiom “Content is King”, and with content comes pages… and pages. Without a Content Management System, all that content can be cumbersome to layout and continually organize. Like other CMS platforms, WordPress allows you to easily add new pages, articles, and categories, but its community support outweighs any other CMS making it easier to find a help articles and best practices.

SEO friendly

Just having a website isn’t enough to drive traffic, but WordPress’s built-in features make it easier to optimize your content. These features include the permalink structure, SEO-friendly titles, unique meta descriptions, an XML sitemap, image optimization, categories and tags.

Multilingual support

Having your website in multiple languages extends your website’s reach and helps tap into other markets. There are several multilingual plugins for WordPress, but you can even setup your multilingual site without the use of a plugin.

Integrates with many marketing and efficiency tools

Due to its popularity, WordPress is likely to integrate with popular tools that you already use, and if it doesn’t yet, it’s possible to create a plugin.

All of these things add up to a perfect storm. WordPress is an easy to extend tool for developers and it empowers website owners by giving them direct control of their content. That’s why at Infini Systems, we’ve chosen to exclusively support WordPress.
